“Wisdom is the principal thing…” Proverbs 4:7
In the original language, the word translated for “principal” is “reshith”. This word is used in Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning, God created…” – “Ba-reshith bara Elohim”.
With this understanding in context, this verse actually comes to mean – “Wisdom is the first, the chiefest thing”. In short, wisdom should come up as the first and foremost thing in our lives. That is why in the same verse in Proverbs 4:7, it says “therefore get wisdom”!
For those of us who are unaware that we should seek His wisdom as the primary source of guidance for our lives, we can end up praying for “help” at the most crucial junctures that include:
Exams
Job interviews
Presentations with Q&A
Press conferences, amongst others
While it is important to ask for wisdom, these moments are not the time to press the panic button. In fact, if we have been asking for wisdom on a daily basis and if wisdom is the principal thing to us, then we should be responding to any situation that comes along our way in wisdom!
God desires for us to walk in His wisdom across every facet of our lives, our ministries, families, work, relationships, finances, health, etc. He has given us access to His mind and it is our responsibility to seek Him for that which He desires to give. Let walking in wisdom be our modus vivendi.
